Now in our 21st year, the goal of "A Boudoir Image" is to provide clients with the best possible images of themselves, using the highest quality photographic materials, at the most reasonable price. We take pride in recognizing each client as the individual that he or she is and try to provide everyone we photograph with a positive, enjoyable, image-boosting, and often liberating experience.
The "personal" photography, that we offer our clients, is indeed geared to the individual client and their own particular needs. Recognizing that each person’s tastes, needs, and comfort levels may vary considerably from the next person’s, we highly encourage everyone to come in for a free, no pressure, consultation. Not only does Jim feel that it is important for you to see a representative body of work that your potential photographer has done, but you should also choose a photographer that you can feel comfortable with, particularly when doing very "personal" pictures for yourself, or that special "significant other".
A consultation is advantageous for both potential client and photographer.
First, it gives you, the perspective client, a chance to view hundreds of samples from our gallery and sample albums, in both black and white and colour, to help you with ideas for your own photo session, as well as create confidence in the photographer’s ability to use a wide variety of lighting and posing techniques. Second, it gives the photographer the opportunity to get feedback from you regarding the nature and type of photographs that appeal to you, so that I can make notes and plan your photo session more specifically to you. You then come in for your photo session a lot less nervous and a lot more prepared. The end result is a much higher percentage of good photos.
During your consultation, you will have the opportunity to view numerous incredible "before" and "after" makeover photos.
While you don’t have to have us do your makeover, and indeed some photo sessions may not require makeup at all (for example, partial body/figure-for-form artistic photos), we think that once you’ve seen samples of what our makeup artist is capable of doing, you’ll be convinced that it’s the only way to go.
PERSONAL PAMPERING !
While we realize that the majority of our clients initially come in to do photos for their intimate partners, be it Christmas, Valentine’s, birthdays, or anniversaries, we heartily encourage people to think about doing a photo session for themselves! It’s a great opportunity to pamper yourself for a day, or even half a day, a chance for you to do something just for yourself, to feel good about yourself! For many it can also be a chance to come out of their shell, so to speak, and shed many of their previous inhibitions. Jim is exceptionally good at helping people in this regard, as he considers half his job normally is getting people comfortable and relaxed. A testament to this is the fact that many of Jim’s initially ‘more nervous’ clients have become repeat customers, some 7 or 8 times!
We welcome any questions or any special requests you may have, regarding your photos and will happily work with you to create the particular image you have in mind for yourself or loved one. Many of our clients come in with no specific image in mind, in which case we will work with you as an individual to create images that reflect your personality, within your own particular comfort zone. Or, if you prefer, we’ll help you expand your comfort zone to a new level, to a level perhaps, that you never previously thought yourself capable of, but will be forever thankful that you reached for. Our photo sessions can be a totally liberating experience for you! You owe it to yourself to explore different aspects of your nature or personality, and what better way to do that safely, than through a private and personalized photo session.
We believe that a photo session with us should be more than the typical in-and-out, time-limited, production line kind of shoot. We want it to be a great "experience"! That is why we don’t put a time limit on our shoots, unless you specifically request we be done by a set time. We don’t want anyone to feel rushed. We want you to have the time to do as many changes of wardrobe and lighting styles as you like. It should be a "fun" session! Plus, we want you to go home feeling really good about yourself.
We are conveniently located in northwest Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and you can contact us directly by phoning (403) 274-5020. We don’t publish our specific address, so people don’t just show up while we’re in the middle of a photo session. This would be most counter productive. First, it would be disruptive for the client we are photographing, and interrupt the flow of the photo shoot. Second, Jim can’t very well leave a client dangling in the studio for an hour, while he consults with another potential client. Jim would much prefer to schedule a specific time for a consultation, so he can devote 100% of his attention to you, so you won’t feel rushed or pressured.
What type of people come to us for a photo session? All types, all ages, all walks of life, all shapes, sizes, races, nationalities, and sexual preferences, and the whole spectrum of educational backgrounds and employment. Jim has photographed people from all over the world (42 countries, 28 states, and every province and territory). There is no "typical" client at "A Boudoir Image" and we don’t discriminate.
Helping people with self esteem and inhibition issues is a just a natural byproduct of much of the photography we do.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER:
Jim Dixon, owner and operator of "A Boudoir Image" and Jim Dixon Photography, is a multi-awarded and multi-published photographer with over 20 years experience as a full-time professional. He has represented Canada in International Photo Salons, exhibitions, and competitions over 20 times and has won numerous International awards in the United States, Japan, and Canada, including competitions held by Nikon, and by Photographer's Forum magazine, and by the Calgary Stampede's International Photo Salon.
Jim's photos have been published in a wide variety of U.S. and world-wide magazines, calendars, and hardcover books, including 8 "BEST OF PHOTOGRAPHY" Annuals
( the 2001 edition being the most recent ).
A well-rounded photographer, who's equally adept and comfortable shooting indoors and out, Jim utilizes a large arsenal of lighting techniques, at his disposal, to help create different looks and effects. His experience with people is probably one of his most valuable assets, as he has met and photographed a huge range of individuals in a variety of circumstances, from a former United States president (and other high-ranking government officials and politicians), to authors, actors, singers, dancers, comedians (and other entertainers), to models and athletes, to university professors (and other educators), to most frequently, average people of all ages and all walks of life!
So far, Jim has photographed people from 42 different countries, 28 states of the United States, and every province and territory of Canada, and has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to bring out each client's individual personality in his photography.
Jim's easy-going, non-judgmental nature, combined with his eagerness to please, usually puts most people at ease almost immediately. Helping people feel good about themselves is an important aspect of Jim's photo sessions, as is providing a safe, comfortable, fun, and friendly atmosphere in a totally non-threatening environment. Jim strives to bring out the best in every individual client and feels half the job is getting people comfortable and relaxed, which is one of the reasons he doesn't like to put time limits on his photo shoots. He doesn't want anybody to feel rushed. He likes to work with each individual, to help him or her accomplish their own personal photographic goal(s), and enjoys the variety of work he gets. Jim also gets great satisfaction from helping people "come out of their shell", so to speak, and achieve results greater than they ever thought possible.

ABOUT THE MAKEUP ARTIST:
Holly Hamilton, Jim's invaluable creative partner, provides the magical makeovers! Holly and Jim have worked together as a dynamic duo for over 15 years now. Prior to their teaming up, Holly worked as a commercial model in Europe for three years, so she really knows and excels at makeup specifically for photography. By adding hair to her repertoire, Holly has become the consummate makeover specialist. While many of Holly's clients have been in the entertainment business, she delights most in making over the average woman, who's never really seen how great she can look, with the right makeup and hair.
Holly's knowledge and experience enable her to cover a great range of makeover styles, from the very "natural" look, to a very "fanciful" look, from a soft look to gothic, as well as the high glamour look, from a 50's style to a totally modern style. Let her know the type of look or style you're looking for, and she will be happy to oblige.
Jim will be the first to admit that the single biggest improvement in his photographic end results didn't come from upgrading his photo equipment, but from having Holly doing his clients makeup and hair! Jim considers Holly his indispensable right arm. He feels most blessed to have her as his makeup artist and assistant.

ABOUT THE PARTNERS:
Although Jim and Holly come from vastly divergent backgrounds, with predictably very different experiences,
they mesh extremely well together as both friends and "Partners-in-pampering" (as Jim likes to call it!). Their mutual respect for each other has led them to learn a lot from one another, both in and out of work. Their focus at work is always catering to their clients toward a two-fold goal. First, to create the finest possible images for each individual client, and second, to have each client go home feeling so good about his, or her, self and so excited about the photo session they just experienced, that they can hardly wait to come back. Indeed, many of our clients are repeat, or referred, customers. Some clients we've shot as many as 8 times, and each and every time is different, easier, and just as much or more fun.
